Infinity Minus One ‘Tales From The Mobius Strip’
MP3.com , 2002
Lord Pale :
Infinity Minus One ( I.M.O ) are one of the few bands in the prog scene who seem willing to advance the genre rather than allow it to stagnate in piles of excessive talent based wank fests . Hailing from Boston USA , I.M.O combine elements of progressive metal with commercial based rhythms and site computer games and film scores in their influences as well . Tales From The Mobius Strip is the bands debut release and comes as a four track mini cd opening in style with perhaps the heaviest song on the disc ‘At The Doorway Of Existence’ , with it’s chirpy opening synth leading into a down tuned rumbling prog riff complimented by vocals using a variety of interesting filters and a catchy chorus . The second track ‘Face To Face’ is a slower more reflective piece with twinkling piano passages that relies more on the lyrics than the rhythm for effect . ‘Independence Day’ displays some more of the heavier guitar work hinted at in the opening track along the course of its off kilter , happy , jazzy noodling , whilst the closer ‘Architectural Martyr’ is a slower piece with the drums building into an interesting chorus which again uses Denis Lanza’s soothing vocals with a few voice filters adding an interesting development to the bands sound . Overall a refreshing and intriguing release .
